- John Strong and Jocko under the Wonder Wheel
Contingent on the award of the NYC Contracts and negotiation with the Amusement Operator, the current John Strong Shows Proposal for Coney Island 2010 has three primary components:
- An Oddity Museum is proposed for the entrance of the former Astroland site similar to the successful John Strong show in the same location in 2009 and documented in the “Oddity Museum” section of this site.
- A live 10-in-1 is proposed for the boardwalk side of the former Astroland site on the site of the former Diving Bell ride under the Historic Wonder Wheel similar to the successful John Strong show in the same location in 2009 and documented in the “Sideshow” section of this site.
- A Cirque-style/Las Vegas class, choreographed, Circus Sideshow production is proposed for under the Stillwell Avenue aluminum tents with fire eaters, family friendly dance revues and similar live amusements with a definite plot and thematic development. John Strong Shows and Butch Butler Amusements jointly own the equipment (seats, lights, etc.) for a 2000 seat, 1-ring circus. Joe Sitt, Digna Rodriguez and Sam Sabin of Thor Equities have been very supportive of this use of Thor’s tents and properties on Surf. They were also a big help and influence of the successful 2009 Season in Dreamland Amusement Park for the John Strong Oddity Museum and Sideshow.
In 2009, the Oddity Museum and the live show were well received and loved by NYC, the people and the park owners. Excluding the ride gross, both operations were the highest grossing operations in the Dreamland Park. John Strong also managed to produce national, positive media exposure for Coney Island and sideshow owners when he attempted to buy a 5-legged dog. The case eventually went to Judge Pirro, where John, nicely dressed in a suit and tie, pled his case and won.
